A man has shot dead at least two people at the Palace of Justice in the Italian city of Milan, officials say.

Appeals court judge Giovanni Canzio told the Ansa news agency that a defendant in a bankruptcy case opened fire at the entrance to a courtroom.

The shooter was still at large inside the Palace of Justice, he added.

A court official told the Reuters news agency a judge was one of those killed, while the newspaper La Repubblica said a third person was injured.

Local media identified the gunman as Claudio Giardiello.
