Twenty people were injured when a taxi knocked down a pedestrian, crashed on a barrier and rolled on Wednesday in Cape Town, paramedics sad.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said the taxi apparently hit a pedestrian and barrier, causing it to roll, on Vanguard Drive and Govan Mbeki Road.

“The taxi was found lying on its roof on the side of the road, and a centre medium barrier next to the taxi had been ripped from its foundation, when… [emergency] services arrived on the scene.
“Paramedics discovered 19 people had been travelling in the taxi when the collision occurred, and at least five of the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle when it overturned,” he said. Three patients were critically injured and 17 sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Meiring said one of the critically injured patients was the pedestrian. The woman sustained serious injuries to her legs, waist and chest.
The patients were treated on the scene and transported to various hospitals.
